Dear All & Sundry:
This Friday, September 28, Dr. Ketchup, The Absinthe Drinkers and Todd Young & His Rock Band are playing at the Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum at 3819 Hamilton Street. Show time is 8 PM and goes to 12 midnight. The cover charge is $5, which breaks down to $1.67 per band! By comparison a movie costs almost $10, and I defy you to find a movie theater that features amazing art on the walls and a bar! You can't think of one, can you? I rest my case.
The Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum is located on 3819 Hamilton Street in Powelton Village, West Philadelphia, and is dedicated to the art of Philadelphia legend E.P. Tiberino. As part of their last Friday series the museum is hosting performers in the spacious backyard, with a real bar!
This Friday will see three really cool bands. For starters we have Dr.
Ketchup, laying down cool soul/funk jazz. Dr. Ketchup is a doctor, so you know they have your well being in mind. Ketchup is a delicious condiment, so you know you'll enjoy the taste. Also, according to our late President Reagan, Ketchup is a vegetable, so you'll get lots of fiber and vitamins along with your daily requirement of groovelicious funkitude. How many bands can write prescriptions and taste good on a hamburger? Not many, I'll wager.
Next up is The Absinthe Drinkers, fresh off their wildly successful Fringe Show "Songs From Under The Bed." Playing tuneful lit-pop supplemented by video and fabulous burlesque dancers, The Drinkers will make you hear Oscar Wilde and William Shakespeare in a whole new, extra sexy light. They will perform some old favorites mixed with new tunes from their Fringe show about monsters, so you can get a jump start on the always hectic Halloween season. Trust us, after experiencing their version of Weldon Kees' "Coming of the Plague" you will never look at mummy movies the same way again.
Rounding out the evening will be Todd Young & His Rock Band. After experimenting with Todd Young's Polka Band and Todd Young's Three Guys Playing Spoons on Their Naked Bellies, Todd Young decided that what the world really needed was Todd Young's Rock Band. The wisdom of this decision will be immediately obvious to anyone in attendance Friday night. Nothing rocks the Todd Young harder than Todd Young's Rock Band, and you will be rocked as well.
So there you have it: Funk/Soul/Jazz under conditions of strict medical supervision, Sexy lit-pop burlesque poetry and Todd Young rocking your world, all in the beautiful surroundings of the Ellen Powell Tiberino Museum, while Jon Q pours the drinks. I honestly don't know what you could be holding out for, but to sweeten the deal there will also be cool videos playing between sets.
By midnight you will be a better person: That is our pledge to you. Better in what way, you ask? Show up Friday and find out!
